Slovak Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Slovakia’s mostly mountainous territory spans about 49,000 square kilometers (19,000 sq mi), with a population of over 5.4 million. The capital and largest city is Bratislava.

In 2020, Slovakia was ranked by the International Monetary Fund as the 38th richest country in the world (out of 187 countries), with purchasing power parity per capita GDP of $38,321. The country used to be dubbed the “Tatra Tiger”. Slovakia successfully transformed from a centrally planned economy to a market-driven economy. Major privatizations are completed, the banking sector is almost completely in private hands, and foreign investment has risen. Slovakia is part of the Schengen Area, the EU single market, and since 2009, the Eurozone. The Slovak economy is one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe and 3rd-fastest in eurozone (2017).

Investing

The residence may be granted for the foreseen duration of business for maximum period of 3 years. The applicant can apply to extend the period of before expiration.

For applying for this program applicant needs to prepare a business plan, a business plan for implementation of an innovative project, or a document confirming the authorization to do business.

Executive of a Commercial Company:

Memorandum of association on funding of the company signed by all founders in which applicant is indicated as the executive.

Record from general assembly of the existing company, during which the applicant was appointed as the company’s executive.

Study Visa

Study resident may be granted only to foreign national who is full-time student at secondary school, higher vocational or student at university.

Requirements:

  • Confirmation of admission for study
  • Criminal record statement
  • Document on accommodation
  • Document on financial coverage

Benefits of study residence:

  • University students are allowed to work 20 hours per week
  • They are allowed to apply for residence for their family
  • During temporary residence they can start their own business
  • It is possible to apply for renewal of residence for 9 months to seek for job
  • The family member can work full time

EU Blue Card

The Blue Card is a type of temporary residence granted to third country nationals for the purpose of highly qualified employment. The blue card is issued for period of 4 years or for duration of the employment contract.

Requirements:

  • Higher professional qualification in the form of university education.
  • Contract of employment in duration of at least 1 year.
  • Salary should be at least 1.5 multiple of the wage in the Slovak national economy.
